Experience / Philosophy: Camp ministry has had a great impact on Dan in his own discipleship experience and in his years as a youth pastor. His early experiences as a camper confronted some of the spiritual lethargy in his life as a teen and motivated him to yield his life to service to teens and adults. As a youth pastor, camp ministry was an essential discipleship tool for ministering to the hearts of teens. Dan believes that this “confrontation with truth” is especially important for young men as the distractions of this world system are so very real. It is exciting to work together as a ministry team in exhorting our campers to “act like men”, godly men. (Acts 16:13-14) As we pursue blending a passion for adventure with a passion for God, Dan gives direction to our discipleship program. Dan plans the preaching and devotional ministry of camp and trains and leads our counselor team. Truth is boldly declared, lived out by grace, and embraced in the context of loving relationships, relationships that are developed in the experiences of daily adventure. Dan is the king of the pyramid challenge, weekend camp cookouts, and the ping pong table.
Family Life: Dan and Brenda Raught joined Victory in 2010, however Dan has been involved in Christian education for over 25 years. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, he began teaching in a Christian high school. He has taught on the middle school and high school levels and has also been an Administrator for the past five years. Though Dan places necessary importance on the facts and processes that must be learned in the classroom, he recognizes all knowledge to be useless unless viewed within the contextual framework found in the Source of all truth, God Himself. Students are taught a worldview built upon God’s Word, the Bible. Dan enjoys studying Civil War History, playing sports (esp. basketball, ping pong, and golf), and hunting.
Dan's wife Brenda is a special education teacher in the public school. The Raughts have four children and three grandchildren. Besides teaching, Dan and Brenda have been involved in a variety of ministries including eight years of pastoral ministry and several years of involvement in short term missions. In recent years Dan has pursued further training in counseling.
