Correspondence Information

Saturday and Sunday are phone “connect with the outside world” days.  Campers will have access to phones to call parents.  Calls will be limited to 20 minutes so everyone can have access during their open time.

Parental Involvement

We know that we are just a part of the influence in the heart of a young man.  Parents have been there for years and will be there for years to come.  Part of our mission is to help parents prepare for greater influence in the life of their child when he returns home.  We require dads (or mentor when dad is out of the picture) to attend the Father-Son Encampment during the last week of camp.  That starts Thursday, July 27 at 6 p.m. with dinner and concludes July 29.  There will be camping opportunities and a whitewater rafting trip.  The Encampment will also have great food, both physically and spiritually.  The final session ends on Saturday, July 29 at 11am.

We also have a booklet for parents that outlines the spiritual and character lessons that campers will be challenged with each day.  We want each parent to follow along each day their son is at camp.  Paired with that will be questions, readings, and assignments that will help parents understand what their sons are being taught.  Our hope is that parents will use their booklet as a guide to do a 30-day follow-up program with their sons when he comes home.  Please download and sign the parental agreement for registration.

Camper Conduct Information and Expectations

We are EXCITED for you to be here and though we know real growth can be a hard process, we are ready to help you grow spiritually and in character as you go through the challenges of camp.  While the activities of camp will challenge you physically, this is not a boot camp or a program that is designed to “break” a person. Like any sport or activity that you want to learn and be good at, there are hours of practice and hard work to learn the sport and to become a great athlete. We want you to be challenged to pour your energy and thinking into learning and growing through all the fun adventure that will come your way at camp.

Our program is decidedly Christian.  We want you to be ready for the spiritual challenge.  Most days will include three spiritual challenges: morning devotions, afternoon “5 minute challenge,” evening chapel.  The Christian virtues of character are the goals we are working toward and our core virtues include: respect, responsibility, self-control, and integrity.

What do we expect of you?  We expect that you will do the same things we ask of ourselves as staff.  There are two basic attitudes that will make your time at camp just flat-out amazing.  First, embrace the challenges of each day by respecting others, taking responsibility, and exhibiting self-control and integrity.  Secondly, engage your heart in the spiritual challenges by being passionate about Truth and learning how to apply Truth to your life.

Student Conduct

General Principles:
  1. Respect:
    • All people are to be addressed respectfully at all times.
    • All communication should be kind and building.
    • All conflict should be resolved biblically, with relational restoration being the goal.

    • Do with diligence.
    • Take initiative.
    • Follow through to completion.
    • Participate whole-heartedly in all activities.
    • Take care of personal areas and areas that impact those around you.

Items to Bring for Camp

Campers must bring the following items and have each item marked with initials with permanent marker. Bring ONLY these items. Any excess or unnecessary items will be sent home with parent. Because he will do laundry each weekend only one week of clothes is needed.

***Please pack everything into a maximum of (2) large duffle bags or suitcases. The exception is that the sleeping bag and backpack can be separate.***

Once the camper arrives at Wildheart, we will assign additional personal gear to each guy for the remainder of camp. Wildheart will provide all backpacking gear that the camper does not already have. The camp will also provide a “cantina” for snacks, so campers can bring spending money to purchase these extra snacks.**

Experience has taught us that we just have to say this:  Some specific examples of clothing that are not allowed at Wildheart (again, it’s not that people who wear such are wicked, evil and therefore terrible people; we just set as clear a line as we can in a very broad area): clothing that is vividly marked with logos of companies that have taken a stand on issues in a decidedly anti-Christian way (i.e. Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Tommy Hilfiger, alcohol beverage companies, Tapout, Zoo York, etc.) Unacceptable attire would include attire that either looks sloppy, dirty, or identifying with a specific subculture or group that is anti-Christian in what it promotes. Examples would be ragged, ripped, baggy, gothic, or grunge style clothing, flat-brimmed hats or beanies, studded belts, skinny jeans, etc.
